REMEMBERING Doreen SCHENKENBERGER

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of Doreen Schenkenberger.  Doreen was a fierce and unwavering advocate for recovery at all levels, supporting her peers in Alaska and across the country. Her strength, dedication, and tireless commitment to lifting up those in need of support and services were unmatched and will be deeply missed. She shared her strength with her Alaska family and her alumni family nationwide with dignity, compassion, love, and sensitivity.

When Doreen spoke, she invited you into her words—making you feel not only comfortable listening, but truly feeling their meaning.  As a pioneer of the Alumni movement within Alaska’s therapeutic courts, Doreen helped lay the foundation for what the alumni movement has become today. We make no mistake in knowing that her leadership and tenacity brought us to where we are now. She did not just message hope—she embodied resilience, unbreakable strength, humility, and a smile that warmed every room she entered.

We, the NTCAA family, extend our prayers, deepest condolences, and respect to her son, daughter, and all family and friends who are hurting during this difficult time. We also thank her son and daughter for graciously sharing your mother with the world, allowing her to make it a better place for so many
